Driving Instructions from the Airport:
There are a few airports one can fly into on the Big Island. To aid in the ease of finding our cottages, there are directions from the various airports below.
Keahole International Airport (KOA)
This airport is approximately 45 minutes from Waimea on the Kohala Coast. It is our main airport and will most likely be the least expensive option. To get to Waimea, turn left out of the airport entrance onto Highway 19. Follow Highway 19 for about 30 minutes until you get to the Kawaihae road junction. Turn right up the hill and follow Kawaihae rd into Waimea. Once in Waimea town, Daniel Thiebaut Restaurant (a large yellow building) will be on your right. Turn into the parking lot and drive to the back. The three cottages are visible beneath the trees on the left.
Waimea Airport (MUE)
A small airport and used primarily by commuter planes, this airport is ideal if you are island hopping and don't need a rental car. To get to Waimea Vacation Rental Cottages from here, turn right out of the airport onto Highway 190. (This road is locally known as the "high road" or "mountain road".) Highway 190 will take you to the main intersection and stop light in Waimea. Once at the stop light turn left onto Mamalahoa Hwy (hwy 19). The road will curve around; pass a park on the right, and then a number of churches on the left. Directly after the churches on the left hand side is Daniel Thiebaut Restaurant, a bright yellow building. Turn left into their parking lot and drive down to the end. The cottages are sitting under the trees on the left.
Hilo Airport (ITO)
The Hilo airport is about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Waimea, and a beautiful drive along the Hamakua Coast. To get to Waimea from Hilo, turn right onto Kanoelehua Ave (hwy 11). Follow Kanoelehua Ave until you come to Kamehameha Ave and turn right onto it. Kamehameha Ave will turn into Mamalahoa Hwy (hwy 19). Follow Highway 19 all along the Hamakua Coast until you reach Waimea. At Waimea's main intersection, turn right to continue along the Mamalahoa Hwy. The road will curve around, pass a park on the right, and then a number of churches on the left. Directly after the churches on the left hand side is Daniel Thiebaut Restaurant, a bright yellow building. Turn left into their parking lot and drive down to the end. The cottages are sitting under the trees on the left hand side.
If you are worried you are lost, you can always pull over and ask directions. It is an island after all, and everyone knows how to get to Waimea.
